“The doctor of the future will give no medicine BUT will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the CAUSE and PREVENTION of di-ease.” ~~ Thomas A. Edison
Edison was born in 1847 and passed away in 1931, 87 years ago. When he wrote the above it may have been 100 years ago. He’s an American, a person like myself living in North America where we practise “western medicine.” His thinking was more eastern; less about taking pills or radical surgery.
He hints at personal responsibility and the need for prevention and self care and self responsibility. Each individual is responsible for her/his health. Other people may help us, but first responsibility belongs to me.
I ran across an article on the John Hopkins site touching upon the different types of alternative medicine available to be used as complementary to our traditional medical practices. I don’t agree that both are necessary in all cases, but one may support the other. After all doctors are simply the instruments in the hands of Creator when they attend to their patients. They are human and can’t heal another human. Creator works through them, giving them the knowledge, wisdom and know how of what to do.
The part that caught my eye was the reference to energy, or as they call it external energy:
“Some people believe external energies from objects or other sources directly affect a person’s health. An example of external therapy is:
- Electromagnetic Therapy
They don’t sound like they are endorsing it with the way it is worded, “Some people believe …”.
Energy Therapy – Dementia, Depression
The idea that shock therapy is grouped in with Reiki, gave me goosebumps. Reading that but a few hours ago and then the reason for this blog – triggered by a television program I saw several days ago.
I believe that the Universal Energy Field is much, much more potent than anything that man can create; after all the created sources its energy from the Creator. It passes through the hands of the person administering (as a conduit) the directed energy to the part of the body that is out of balance. The Universe can apply just as much energy as it desires – with no need of a laser beam, etc.
I watched this television show where female doctor (from Australia I think) was using magnetic (magnets) energy therapy in place of electro shock therapy to help patients suffering with depression. Magnetic therapy targets only that part of the brain controlling depression whereas apparently electro shock therapy covered a much larger area of the brain and left the patient feeling sick with many side effects.
A patient of this doctor, a woman, was also on the show. She had been getting electro shock therapy for years, now receives magnetic therapy and both she and her husband were amazed at how improved her life is with this new treatment.
For several years (since before my move from Toronto in 2012) I have thought about using Reiki for seniors suffering with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s.
When I saw this program on the television, it was like Spirit was mocking me and saying, “Told you, didn’t I? Get off your butt!”
I am learning, by trial and error that whatever it is we will do in this life, our purpose of the moment, we will not be impacting or affecting others until:
“it first is applied to or impacts our lives, personally.”
In looking at my own recalcitrance and hesitation in doing something unusual or out of the ordinary, I suppose if Edison were alive today he might say that in 100 years, we have come a long way. I recall when I worked in the legal profession with personal injury clients, at that time chiropractors were not covered under Ontario’s OHIP coverage.
Things are progressing, which is better than regressing. There is always hope.
